Why Summer?
Our country should not punish people for striving to improve their lives through education. The current system is failing borrowers, with another borrower defaulting every 28 seconds. The rampant misinformation in the market exacerbates the issue for too many borrowers. We founded Summer to bring real, lasting change to the student loan market.

Why Summer?
Our team is passionate about harnessing technology and policy knowledge to benefit consumers. Having helped companies scale their operations in a range of highly regulated industries, I am excited to guide Summer’s growth in a sustainable manner that aligns our interests with those of student loan borrowers. I see student debt as a critical issue both as a burden at a personal level that impacts major life decisions—often in ways that exacerbate preexisting societal imbalances—and in terms of the macroeconomic consequences of having a generation of Americans burdened by rising tuition costs.

Why Summer?
Like most student loan borrowers, I was overwhelmed by the repayment process when I graduated from college. I chose to work in finance so that I could pay off my debt, and was excited to work in fintech startups once I got my debt under control. When I met Will and Paul at a pitch competition, I fell in love with Summer’s mission. I feel lucky to come to work every day to help make the process less painful for everyone.

Why Summer?
I am a parent of a child in college, and I am very aware of how student loan debt affects students and parents within my community. It is an obstacle to pursuing dreams, starting families, buying homes, and saving for retirement. Summer has the potential to make a real difference in people’s lives, and I couldn’t be happier to be working on a solution with this amazing team.

Why Summer?
I know first-hand the impact of financial instability and the role that student debt can play. I don’t take any day of financial health for granted. Today, as I pay monthly loans off my small fraction of our collective $1.5 trillion debt load, I’m proud to be part of a team that’s committed to helping other borrowers find their way out of the student loan maze.

Why Summer?
There is nothing wrong with investing in your own education, even if it means taking on debt.  Over time, our system for loan repayment has become overly complicated, and borrowers are making uninformed decisions that are often not in their best interests.  Summer represents the best of what fintech should be—leveraging technology to provide everyone with access to complete information and the ability to make and implement smart decisions for their financial health.

Why Summer?
After finishing grad school in debt and navigating repayment as a freelance musician, I understand how opaque and complex the process can be. It took working in investment management to develop my financial health and perspective. I want to make sure everyone can take that journey no matter what field they’re in. Debt repayment and financial planning are the foundational steps to building a life that looks the way you want it to. I’m honored to be working with Summer to support borrowers with expert help and make student debt manageable.

Why Summer?
As someone who did not think they would find themselves in the fintech industry, I was immediately drawn to Summer because of its fierce mission and passionate team. It’s hard to find someone that hasn’t been affected by the student debt crisis in some way. I was fortunate to have a circle around me that was familiar with the student loan space but not everyone is as lucky. The current system is confusing and can be incredibly frustrating. I knew that I wanted to be a part of an organization that tackles this issue head on. I love being able to speak with borrowers directly and help them navigate through the system. I am incredibly excited for the lasting change Summer will bring to current and future student borrowers!

Student loans have impacted many people’s lives. Impressed by Summer’s mission, I joined the founding team as a data scientist to work with a talented team on a critical issue. At Summer, I am able to utilize the power of data science to analyze complicated student loan cases and turn our findings into a scalable product for millions of student loan borrowers. We care about data, and even more importantly, we care about the people we serve.

Why Summer?
Having come from a place where student loan debt is far less of a social issue, I was appalled to learn that the debt in the US is now in the trillions, and affects a staggering number of Americans. It’s an issue that many of my peers struggle with but rarely discuss. With loan debts ranging from small burden to crippling, it’s no wonder they don’t want to think or talk about their debt. At Summer, we have the opportunity to open up a dialogue about student loan debt and help people find the tools they need in order to reduce it, and change their lives for the better.

Why Summer?
The cost of education should not be a barrier to people who want to grow and invest in themselves. As a student loan borrower myself, I worked to pay off my debt as quickly as possible but did not have any reliable resources while navigating the process. As a designer, I aim to build products that bring clarity to the complexity while putting users first. I’m excited to work with the Summer team to guide borrowers toward their best options and make the most of their repayment plans.

Designing anything for the world inherently carries an ethical implication. As a designer, I feel a responsibility to take opportunities where I can help people in the realm of social innovation through design methodology. At Summer, we build financial tech that aims to help borrowers better understand and navigate their options for their student loans. By working at Summer, I hope to help people overcome the often opportunity-limiting overhead of student loans so that they can live the lives they imagine.

Why Summer?
As the student debt burden continues to increase and affect the financial health and lives of nearly 45 million Americans, it’s imperative to have a trusted resource to help make sense of the various repayment and forgiveness programs. As a student loan borrower myself, I know that understanding your options can be challenging. It’s a process full of confusing—and sometimes bad—information. I’m excited to be part of a team that helps combat this confusion and is firmly on the side of the borrower.

Why Summer?
I’m 1 of the 45 million borrowers with student loan debt and was drawn to Summer’s mission-driven solution to this nationwide crisis. The American dream of owning a home or saving for retirement is hindered the moment many students leave campus by an insurmountable amount of debt—but it does not need to be that way. I’m motivated by Summer’s innovative approach to this complex problem and am excited to speak with new partners who share in our mission to help alleviate the student loan burden for millions of Americans.

Why Summer?

The student loan crisis is forcing a generation of my peers to put a mortgage on our futures. The byzantine structure that exists for managing one’s loans just makes the already huge burden of student debt all the heavier. I’m a big believer in empowerment through knowledge, and Summer is doing great work to help educate people about their student loan options and give them back control over their lives. I’m excited to be part of a team that is dedicated to making a positive change in the world, and solve fun technological challenges along the way.

The people at this company care deeply about solving this problem. Every person we can help is one fewer who has to live with anxiety and one more who can live a fulfilling life without the burden of student debt.

An investment in yourself and your education is possibly one of the best decisions anyone can make in their life. People should feel empowered to make that investment without the looming threat of a never-ending cycle of debt. I think that with the proper data, technology, and compassion we can make navigating the complex system of repayment a more human and approachable process. I’m excited to work with Summer to help empower people to tackle their student debt and build a solution from the ground up!

Why Summer?
It’s about time someone stuck up for the borrowers of this country. For too long, people with student loans have been subjected to misinformation and predatory practices that continue to push them farther from becoming debt-free. I’m proud to be part of the team at Summer that’s working to provide them with guidance and support to get them back on the right track.

Why Summer?
From the start, Summer’s founders have been clear that building a diverse, inclusive team is a core value. That’s not only because it’s the right thing to do, but because it’s key to the success of a company striving to fix a systemic issue impacting socioeconomic injustice in the US. I’m picky about working with organizations that practice what they preach, and Summer is facing that challenge head on.
