What is PSLF?

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) is a government program that forgives the debt of borrowers working in public sector and non-profit careers after 120 months (e.g. 10 years if done consecutively).

How does PSLF work?

PSLF forgives the remaining balance on your federal Direct loans after you’ve made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while you’re working full-time for a qualifying employer.

Are PSLF applicants being denied?

As of August 2018. 1 in 3 borrowers have been denied for missing/incorrect information, non-eligible loans, or not having a qualifying employer. Our tool address all 3 of these issues so you can certify with more confidence.

Is PSLF going to stick around?

While a few critics have pushed to repeal PSLF, we remain fully optimistic. There are many powerful organizations that rely on PSLF and many influential legislators that are fighting for its existence.

Does my employer qualify?

All government employers, all tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations, and select non-501(c)(3) non-profits whose “purpose is to provide a qualifying public service” are eligible for PSLF. Our tool helps you with this!

Do I have the right type of loans?

Only a specific type of federal student loan qualifies for PSLF, known as Direct loans. Unfortunately private loans issued by a bank do not qualify. Our tool helps you figure out what loans you have and whether they qualify!
